Sunscreen For Black Girls

Image
As a black woman I never thought I needed sunscreen. However, that all changed one afternoon after a visit to the doctor's office following my decision to get on Accutane to clear my acne. During this visit, I was told I would need to keep my self hydrated, my lips and face moisturised but most importantly use SPF 50. This was recommended to reduce my chances of getting sunburned.  There are of course additional benefits to using sunscreen (i.e. reducing your chances of getting skin cancer), which you can find more about here. However, finding the right sunscreen for my skin tone and skin type was not an easy process. I believe this because in large part beauty brands are aware that many black people do not use sunscreen which is why many of these brands don't cater to us. _________________________________________________________________________________ According to  The American Journal of Preventive Medicine , 63% of African-American never use sunscreen. __...

Things To Do In Lagos Nigeria

Hi guys!

This post is inspired by a post I came across recently by Luviee Ajayi titled '5 Things Do In Lagos Nigeria'. This post was written in 2014. While I throughly enjoyed the piece,  Lagos has transformed  since then. Which is why I decided to put my own spin on things and come up with a new list of places to go and things to do while in Lagos. So here goes......

The Tea Room Lagos

First things first, for all my ladies in the building who love a good instagram worthy spot, you have to visit The Tea Room. I've never visited there myself, but honey, just by looking at the photos I can tell it's one of those places you have to visit.  African American Youtube beauty vloggers, Makeba and Chantel Riley recently visited the spot during their visit to Nigeria.

Other instagram worthy resturants spots in Nigeria also include, but are not limited to - Hard Rock Cafe, Shiro Cafe, Nok By Alara, The Backyard Bar and Grill.

Owambe

Speaking of fun, if you really want to party Nigerian style then you have to find your way to an Owambe party. This could be a wedding, a birthday, a naming ceremony or a graduation party. These type of events usually consist of at least five things Nigerian delicious (e.g. Jollof rice, efo riro and yam porridge). No to mention endless drink (e.g. palm wine and all the works) consist Faji music, dollars up on dollars,  if you play your cards right on the dance floor. There's always the case of souvenirs, and Aso Ebi, but I'll get to that later (in another post).

Get Arena, Lekki

If you are into kart racing then this will definitely be your thing. I have only been to this place once and while it wasn't my thing.... I couldn't leave it out because you know what they say "One man's meat is another man's poison."

Lekki Arts & Craft Market

Just like the name suggests If you are looking for African arts and souvenirs then Lekki Arts & Craft Market is definitely somewhere you want to check out. You never know what you my find there.

Lekki Conservation Centre

If you are into the wildlife and you are feeling up to the challenge, please consider visiting Lekki Conservation Centre for a day. There is definitely lots to see.

Concerts

Concerts..concerts.. concerts there's always a concert going on in Nigeria, especially towards the end of the year. From Wiz Kid to Burna Boy to Davido. You are bound to have the time of your life.

If you never been to Nigeria before, what do you look forward to seeing? And if you have been to Lagos before or live in Lagos, which part of do you like about Lagos entertainment scene?
